John J.Maresca, Ambassador

John Maresca is a former US Ambassador who negotiated the Helsinki Final Act and the Charter of Paris for a New Europe, which established the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Maresca was sent as a special Ambassadorial envoy to open US relations with the newly-independent states following the break-up of the USSR. He became Vice President for International Relations of the worldwide energy company Unocal (Union Oil of California), before it merged with Chevron. He was subsequently Rector of the United Nations University for Peace, based in Costa Rica, and advised on the establishment of ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijan. He founded the Business Humanitarian Forum (BHF) in Geneva, and lectures widely on international aff airs and energy. He is a Fellow of the Caspian Centre for Energy and the Environment. Maresca studied at Yale University and the London School of Economics.

Ambassador Maresca will speak on the energy industry and its interaction with international relations, with a focus on Europe and Central Asia.
