On Monday, October 9th, the International University of Monaco (IUM), Monaco Impact and the Oceanographic Museum have strengthened their collaboration by signing a partnership agreement.

This cooperation aims at raising the young generations’ awareness of environmental issues, and more specifically about our ocean’s protection. This academic year, the IUM students will participate in a pedagogical project to elaborate creative solutions and new mediation tools on the digital and environmental front.

How can we incite the public to adopt the proper behavior to protect our marine heritage? How can we engage generation Z to develop their ocean knowledge and understanding? How can we encourage daily actions? Those are some of the topics for the forthcoming group projects of about 50 master and bachelor students.

“This partnership is perfectly in line with the mission of the International University Monaco, which is to educate managers and responsible business leaders engaged in innovation and sustainable development, while contributing to the international outreach of the Principality of Monaco,” indicates Jean-Philippe Muller, General Manager of IUM.

In this framework, a group of 20 students from the pilot project will be invited to visit the Oceanographic Museum and its backstage operations and to attend a presentation on the activities of the Oceanographic Institute, and the issues that the students will be challenged to help resolve.

“We need the future generations to think ‘out of the box’, to challenges our certitudes. The mediation mission of the Oceanographic Institute shall be enriched by these new visions. I am convinced that this pedagogical exercise is a wonderful way to create audacity, engagement and action among the youth,” explains Robert Calcagno, Director of the Museum.

He will present a conference in December in front of 250 students on the topic “Monaco and the Ocean”.

Thanks to the financial support of Monaco Impact, the winning student project could be implemented practically in the future.
